Does Guatemala have a constitution?

Are elections free and public?
Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Yes, Guatemala has a constitution. It was ratified in 1985 and reformed eight years later in 1993.

Guatemala's form of government is a Republic, with separate legislative, executive, and judicial branches.

The text of the reformed constitution can be found in Spanish here:

Guatemala has a constitution.

Guatemala has multiparty, free and public elections; which is to say that they are not shams run by the government. However, the elections are extremely violent, over 50 people were killed in the last round including candidates. In addition to right wing and left wing groups, Guatemala suffers from strong and numerous criminal gangs which have caused one of the highest murder rates in the world.
