You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Apparently the answer is no. Because, cracking knuckles is common and there is no extensive or common research on cracking knuckles related to arthritis. There are only a few studies on the cracking knuckles related to arthritis, which say no relation of arthritis to cracking knuckles. None shows a definite link between knuckle cracking and arthritis. There are no studies, which indicate cracking knuckles caused arthritis. None of the studies indicated that there is an increase of arthritis risk among knuckle cracker persons. There is no relationship discovered that knuckle cracking persons have a problem in their wrist, finger, elbow or hand; there is no swelling, no lower grip strength, no damage to ligaments or surrounding the joints and dislocation of tendons or arthritis observed.

The reason people think that knuckle cracking may cause arthritis because knuckle cracking makes a cracking noise or sound, which seems damage or cracks on the relevant portion of the knuckle ligament. However, the truth is that nothing is being damaged or cracked due to the cracking noise or sound.

It never came to me this thought. But now I've come to think of it, I do have rheumatoid arthritis since I am 23 yo. But my doctor said that I am prone to it since I subjected my hands to hot then cold washes due of my line of work.

According to doctor Dimitrios Pappas at Johns Hopkins University, there is no evidence that suggests cracking your knuckles causes arthritis in the joints. What it can do, though, is cause injury to the ligaments around the joint or dislocation of the tendons. Research also indicates that those who have cracked their knuckles for years may have reduced grip strength than those who have not cracked their knuckles. Those people already with arthritis who crack their knuckles may be at a greater risk of joint injury than those who don't crack their knuckles.

The causes of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis are not well known and still under research. Rheumatoid arthritis is the inflammatory arthrtis and osteoarthritis is degenerative arthritis associated with the natural wear and tear on the joints as one gets older.

The belief that Cracking Knuckles can cause Arthritis is a myth that maybe passed on until today. Studies have shown that there are no direct link when one crack its knuckles with individuals suffering from arthritis. However, the habitual practice of cracking knuckles may result in an enlarged hands and may eventually affect the persons capacity to have a much stronger grip. In extreme cases, this practice can sometimes damage to the persons' hand ligaments and worse-dislocation of the affected area.

As far as arthritis is concerned, this condition has many types. One of the most prevalent case of arthritis is osteoarthritis, commonly experience by individuals with ages ranging from 60 above.

As a final note, cracking knuckles do not cause arthritis, however it can cause injuries that you may not wish for.
