There is way too much evidence to show that it was real and an awful lot of 'bad science' that leads people to question it.

M$I was in Idaho at the time, at the Scout Jamboree in Coeur d'Alene (sp?), and there were televisions placed around the Jamboree so we could watch - of course, the image froze at some point . . . but it was an awe-inspriing moment.
As the member before me noted, if it was a hoax it was a very well-kept secret - remember, the President of the US couldn't keep quiet his dalliance with one young woman, and we're expected that more than ten thousand people were in on a secret like this, and nobody spoke up?
