Do you think Duke Nukem Forever will ever come out?

Well... considering the game has been in development for now over 10 years, it will come out eventually.. if not this decade, probably in the next or the one after that.

Someone put together a really awesome timeline of all the events that have happened in the past 10+ years while Duke Nukem Forever has been in development:

http://duke.a-13.net/

And what's crazy is the fact that I actually pre-ordered DNF back in 98(if I'm not mistaken) and I have the EB Games receipt somewhere, or maybe it's gone, not really sure.

All I can say when DNF does get released, it better be the greatest FPS I have ever played in the history of the FPS genre, but then again, who knows. Whatever the case, I'm a huge fan of the series and Duke Nukem himself and will play the game no matter what..I've waited too *beep* long to not play the game when it makes its most eventful release.

Well, this old saying definitely applies to DNF: "When it's done."

Yeah it will come out, but it won't live up to the hype that it will build. First people will be just glad that a release date is given (most likely set in 2nd quarter 2009 - summer), but then it'll get pushed back to 4th quarter for a Christmas release. There will be a lot a hype, and I'm sure lots of ads promoting something like "the Duke is back".

Lots of articles about the awesomeness of Duke Nukem will appear on Digg, and other social sites - but the overall game will be a flop. Gameplay probably won't live up, and graphics will be choppy and not as good as the polished screens released recently.

IMO that's just my prediction, but I guarantee it'll come out in 2009 for sure.

Referring to the Spore answer above: The game is over-hyped at this point. If it ever does get released we will all be disappointed.

No, I don't think so. If it ever did come out, who would buy it? The franchise is dead, and this title wins awards for vaporware on an ongoing basis.

Ofcourse it will, I would say mid to late 2009 is when we should get it. Then again, people have been saying that for years heh.

My best guess is also that it'll be next year if it ever comes out. There's been more media for it this year than ever before, with the trailer and the three (?) screenshots and even some actual footage, so here's hoping.

Hail to the King, baby!

There are fan-made ports that will run on XP and Vista, go look them up, they even enhance the graphics!

I doubt that Duke Nukem will ever come out considering the state of our economy and when the trailer was released last year, the graphics were comparable to last generation graphics.

I figure at this point (it was first announced April 28, 1997) the chances of it actually being released are rather slim. The gaming world has been on pins and needles waiting for this game just like we were for Spore... now that we have been disappointed with Spore I imagine the interest in DNF will drop significantly, making the actual release even less likely.

Really? The fact that Spore was kind of disappointing lowers the chances of Duke Nukem Forever being released? That's a bit of a stretch.

I agree it is a bit of a stretch but from the side of 3D Realm they have to be looking at the success of a game that has been talked about for years without a release and compare that to the situation they are in.

Will that make a difference in their eyes? Maybe not... but most business folks would take a step back and really take in the information before continuing down their path.

It will come out far in the future, but not by the current copyright owners; a console manufacturer will purchase the game development and publishing rights from the owners, and release the game to spur sales of a new technologically advanced console.

My bet is on Microsoft, which has a history of buying out gaming companies (Bungie = Halo) in order to keep gamers buying Windows. The Xbox Wowie, or whatever Microsoft decides to call it, will be marketed to gamers as the only opportunity to play the game that they have waited a decade for.
