about Voodoo
Do voodooists have to sacrifice animals? And what holidays do they celebrate?
I believe in gods, goddesses, angels, demons, spirits, magic, heaven, hell, summerlands, reincarnation, etc. I'm not sure, but I think that voodoo is the closest religion I could practice that has the same beliefs as mine. But I am vegan and I don't want to sacrifice animals! and I want to know more about it and the holidays so I can understand it and if I feel comfortable doing voodoo or not. Please help!

Yes, but this is usually only done by their "preists" ... To feed the Loa aka Spirits. Voodoo is often a word refering to a non Traditional Vodoun practioners or a traitor to a certain school. This is hard religion to explain to people who have not walked this path, but it is very simple once you understand the terminology. To find out the truth of Voodoo religion.. You should search under Vodoun.... Although there are other religions who mix in a practice of both traditional and non Traditional .... Voodoo itself is also a combination of Vodoun, Catholicism.. and can also refer to the Tradition that formed from the melting pot on New Orleans, USA.. .. The Holidays differ depending on which Spirit is being worked with... I heard some practioners state they do not sacrifice animals, but they do offer other things to feed the spirits... I used to talk alot with others who practiced this and other traditions, as I found some powerful African Spirits contacting me on my personal spiritual path. I however, can not answer for a traditionalist, as my belief system blends everything. Hope that helps a little.
