Flowers send a message that a man is thinking about a woman and cares about her happiness. That he likes to surprise her and treat her like a Queen. So what's wrong in that? Nothing.
And flowers really work! There's something about their springy colors, beautiful scent, and unexpected placement in a vase that really brightens up a house, an apartment, or an office desk.
Now let's talk about what kind of man ISN'T a real man...
-A man who's afraid to show affection
-A man who takes for granted the people he loves
-A man who doesn't know how to put a smile on a woman's face with subtle gestures
-A man who only gives flowers when he absolutely has to
In fact, I think a REAL man should be man enough to remember to bring flowers to his mom when she hosts Thanksgiving or Christmas. A real man should bring flowers should bring flowers for the hostess of a party as a thank you gift. But a real man should also be smart enough to never give flowers to a non-relative or spouse with his honey's express consent.

This ^ is my type of bouquet. Roses are nice, but something unique and colorful is a nice runner up when roses are too much money.

M$Real men keep their wife, girlfriend, or partner happy and if flowers make them happy then real men buy them flowers. I feel no shame and feel no less of a man at all for buying flowers every week to lighten and brighten my girlfriends spirits and heart. I feel more of a man doing the things that make her happy.

M$And there are other ways of carrying flowers besides "muzzle down" that look masculine. Try tucking them in the crook of your elbow, facing up, leaving your hand free to use your cell phone. Or bazooka, if you need it to offset the look (just joking).
My husband has given me flowers when he saw something particularly pretty, when he was pulling a practical joke on me, for birthdays, for Valentine's...it always adds an extra special touch to the day. At the office, the arrival of flowers can be serious buzz in the office. The messages conveyed by flowers are as varied as you want them to be.
As to the guilty conscience thing - that's a perception that is developed within the relationship. If flowers are always given as a celebration or token of affection, then there is little chance of that perception developing.

M$But they aren't a sign of guilt. Nope, that's jewelry..LOL
Seriously though, I'm more of a practical sort of gal, and I prefer more practical gifts than flowers. I new blender makes me swoon, and a new vacuum might cause him to get lucky repeatedly.
(nodding) a new computer and I'm his sworn love slave...

M$Would they brighten up my day.....you bet!
Do real men buy flowers? I think real men are the only kind of men who buy flowers! It takes a real man to be unselfish, to so totally love his wife/girlfriend that she is on his mind and he wants to do something nice.
The most touching example of this I have ever seen in my life, was when my brother-in-law presented his daughter with a bouquet of roses after her performance in a highschool play. At that moment he became more of a man to me than any other man I know.

M$My husband brought me a rose on our first real date. His sister later told me he was crushed when my response was, "What have done? Why didn't you just bring me the rose bush?" because he had spent hours picking the proper color to represent his current feelings.
(Ancient orange turning to red= I've loved you in a million lives but it's only begun to grow in this one. Can you see why I married him?)
Anyway, outside of my preference for live plants I see no sally-ness in bringing a lady flowers, just kindness. I think if a man who never brings flowers brought me flowers, I may however jump to.. what did you do...but if little gestures of love were the norm nope wouldn't think he was guilty.

M$Before that she was just my girl friend. Don't buy flower to your loved one suddenly, if you want to do it, do it regularly and consistently.
That's just to avoid suspicion or guilty conscience.
Just my 2cents ;)

M$Also, as a woman, I think flowers are a very nice gesture. Are you in the habit of sending flowers after an argument? If so, I'd pick a few occasions to send flowers "just because" or to send flowers on a holiday or as a celebration of something (such as a birthday or if your girl got a promotion at work).
That way, it will assure your girl that you are simply sending flowers because you like to, because you know they make her happy.
It also depends on the type of flower and how you sign the card. Is it always roses? Mix it up a little! Celebrate spring with a pretty bouquet of tulips. Give roses on Valentine's, a pretty bouquet of mixed flowers for her birthday. This will also help bring some fun and sincerity into the flower-giving gesture.
