Do Ipad's make good gifts?
With the holiday season approaching I've started to think about Christmas gifts. Do Ipad's make good gifts? It seems the service plan could cause issues, would it be lame to give someone an unactivated Ipad that they couldn't play with on Christmas morning?

I think the iPad would be a REALLY nice gift for someone that appreciates tech toys. I helped my sister's-in-law mom pic one out for her husband's birthday, and he loves it. She settled on buying the 3G enabled iPad, and the service plan wasn't a big issue.
Because it's a month-to-month plan with ATT, you can purchase the 3G plan from the iPad in about 5 minutes of registration as long as you have a wireless connection (3G or wi-fi) and a credit card handy. If the gift recipient doesn't live / travel frequently in areas that have ATT 3G coverage, then save the money and buy the wi-fi only iPad. As long as they have wi-fi in their house, they'll be enjoying on the online features of the iPad on Christmas morning.
