Do 'chocolate milkshake' diets like Optifast actually work? Do they work for guys AND girls?

I'm trying out the Optifast chocolate milkshake diet and am wondering if I'm just starving myself and wasting my time.

As with all diets they can work but because they are "temporary diet changes" you will mostly likely gain all the weight back. That's why Weight Watchers and other such systems call themselves "lifestyle changes". That is what it really takes to lose weight permanently.

Good Luck!

I think they work, but they don't "teach" you how to eat. True, you get most of the protein and vitamins you need, but in order to lose weight and keep it off, developing proper eating and exercising habits will serve you much better in the long run.

Good luck with your weight loss journey!

Im not a big believer in the "diet drinks" I have lost 165 pounds in the last 2 years. I started at 400 now down to 235. Its all about exercising and good eating. I started on the treadmill and had to stop at a quarter of a mile walking and now am up to anywhere from 3 to 8 miles full run 4 days a week. Its a mindset don't ever call it a diet because that puts a negative aspect on it. It is a life change. It was hard at first to get motivated but once I saw the scale each time I weighed it became a mission. Now to your answer (lol) I believe they are a waste of time. Spend the extra minutes to get a bowl of cereal or a salad or some chicken breast its much better for you. Oh yeah and I watch the biggest loser each week its very motivating
