How does one go about getting involved in a charity like Smile Train or Operation smile?
These types of charities provide cleft palate surgery to children in third world countries, like the little girl in the Oscar Nominated documentary, Smile Pinki. Which charity is better and are there other charities like it that provide not only cleft palate surgeries, but free surgeries in general for children?

I don't think either organization is "better" than the other, they are simply two charities who provide similar services. The Smile Train is totally focused on cleft lip and palate problems while Operation Smile works on cleft lips, cleft palates and in addition to other facial deformities.
Finally, there are many medical charities in the United States as well as internationally, including Children's Medial Charity (http://www.childrenmedical.org/), Children's Miracle Network (http://www.childrensmiraclenetwork.org/) and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (http://www.stjude.org/stjude/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=f2bfab46cb118010VgnVCM1000000e2015acRCRD)
