Thanks answering so promptly. Your answer is very thorough. There is a great featured video on the stroke topic page here.

Did you try the inward link on the word stroke as well? I'm curious how many folks using answers actually click on the embedded inward links.

This is a good topic to discuss. Thank you for bringing it up and trying to raise people's awareness.

Yes stroke can be caused by illness or disease. The brain damage that sometimes happens is the complex part to deal with. Or mini strokes, which can affect the brain in various ways.

I've helped several grandparents through stroke, and several people through brain injury. (some symptoms are the same as stroke)

Back in the 1980 era, there was not much medical data on brain injury. Thus, I had to read a lot about stroke (a neurologist advised me to do) to help as a relative and friend.

I'm sure not a doctor, but these places have great resources:

I agree that public awareness is so important. That is one reason I claimed the stroke page here on Mahalo. I am also building a wiki as a local resource for helping with long term recovery and rehabilitation. Stroke recovery goes long past insurance coverage. Fortunately in most major metropolitan areas, addition resources are available, but not always easy to find on ones own.
