Dinnertime: Three guests living or dead, who do you invite?

Here's the trick, your guests can't be Religious Figures (Jesus, Buddha etc...) Or world leaders (Churchill, Lincoln etc...)

My Answer BTW.

James Burke, David Attenborough and Maurice Richard
Tip for best answer: M$5.00

I could have gone the intellectual route but then again if it is just one dinner, the three most sexiest Blonds sounds like a better choice. The table talk would be great and dessert would be amazing!

1. My maternal grandmother (dead)
2. My maternal grandfather (dead)
3. My mother (living)

Sorry for the CSI inspired video... but the words cannot express more clearly how I feel about this question.
I wasn't so young in years when my grandparents passed, but was too young in life to understand what is gone in a minute.

We'll have a conversation about the evolution of government and political theory. 4 political scientists from different generations. The rapport between Obama and Tocqueville about Democracy in America would be thrilling. Should be fun.

I like the interesting twist on this.

I'd have to say:

1. Dolly Madison. She wasn't a political figure, but her husband was. What she was was the greatest hostess in Washington, with a knack for making everyone feel comfortable.

2. Socrates. He's not a political or religious figure at all, and was willing to challenge convention to talk about anything and everything. Pairing him with Dolly should be interesting!

3. My maternal grandmother. She was like a second mom to me, living in our house, and I miss her a lot. She's frequently in my dreams and in my thoughts. It's been almost 20 years since her accidental death at 88.

I want to have fun over dinner, not some kind of seminar.

So I'll have Douglas Adams, Richard Feynman and Michael Palin.

Should make for a lot of laughs, stimulating conversation, and plenty of warmth and good cheer.

Carl Sagan: i am always captivated by everything he did. What would he say about the latest scientific advances?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/trackrecord/327991674/

Vernor Vinge: forward thinker. One of the things he is well known for is for his 1993 essay "The Coming Technological Singularity", in which he argues that exponential growth in technology will reach a point beyond which we cannot even speculate about the consequences. He can even bring Carl Sagan up-to-speed with everything he missed since he passed. As a sidenote: Vernor Vinge was my professor for my Operating Systems class at SDSU ;)

http://www.flickr.com/photos/edyson/213575392/

Jason Calacanis: he can bring into the conversation social media, business, and he may even throw in a few jokes here and there to make the conversation even more pleasant ;)

Queen Elizabeth II (alive, She's a monarch, not technically a world leader)
My Mother (deceased)

An interesting mix don't you think...and you don't know even know my Mother! We'd be able to talk about almost anything and especially anyone from practically first hand knowledge - because these two ladies have met almost every important figure from all walks of life for about the past 60 - 70 years of modern history. The insights and perspectives would be amazing.

I'm tempted to say, Britney, Paris and Lindsey, but, you said 'no world leaders.' I'll pick authors.
From Science Fiction, Robert Heinlein because I am curious as to what he thinks about the WAY THINGS ARE GOING.
From romance, Jayne Ann Krentz because I want to hear her take on changing values.
And from detective fiction, Lindsey Davis because I want to know more of what she knows of the early Roman Empire period.

Maurice Richard, wow, that is good. He sure has plenty of tales to tell.

Tim Berners-Lee, Jason Calacanis, and Dave Winer would be great.

Of course it would be nice to dine with a group including Jimmy Buffett. The main course would have to be Gumbo, you know, since Jimmy will play for Gumbo.

It would be interesting to have Frank Zappa, and Trent Reznor in another group. It would sure be fascinating to hear Zappa comment on the current status of the recording industry.

Of the living: Robin Williams, Jon Stewart and J.K. Rowlings. The conversation would be wild (although Rowlings and I would not get a word in edgewise) and I've always wanted to meet these three people.

Of the dead: Steve Irwin, Christopher Reeve, and John Ritter. I've always thought these three died way too son and so I think they deserve to have a few hours back on Earth.

Boring but real answer: My maternal Grandmother because I didn't get to say good bye, and my mom and sister so they could talk with her again.

Interesting answer: I think of two different dinners and it would be hard to choose.

The Authors:
Robert Heinlein, my favourite sci-fi author. I'd want to know how much of his writings he believed in and how much was just to make us think. He was well read and opinionated and would keep the conversation lively at a minimum.
Frank Herbert, author of my favourite series, Dune. Philosophy and politics.
Isaac Asimov, author of the Foundation series. Again politics and science.

The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Dune, and Foundation should be read by everybody.

The Philosophers:
Get 3 of the greats, my favourites, together expose them to modern philosopy and hash it out: Kant, Mill, Descartes.

We'd probably have Congress for Dinner :D Yumm fried politicians! With a healthy dose of reality on the side.

If you had not enacted your rules. I would have answered...
Osama Bin Laden, Current Pope, and God(nondescript whoever shows up is great)

If God shows up, I figure we talk about religion and all the deaths made in it's name.
If God doesn't show up, I figure we talk about religion and all the deaths made in it's name.

Barring that I say Warren Buffet, Jimmy Buffet and My wife.

Warren can tell me how to work less and make more money. Jimmy can play us a tune. And I'll have something beautiful to watch.

On a personal level, I'd want my paternal grandfather Arthur Brookin (died before I was born), his father, William Brookin, and his uncle Robert Pitts Brookin. The stories would be fabulous! Cattle herding, prison, gambling - it'd be like a personal episode of "Rawhide"!

I'll try to keep this wishlist a bit realistic, hence only living persons are included.

First on the list, my guest of honour, would be Zinab Badawi.

http://www.xs4all.nl/~zoc/gnothe/pix/zeinab_badawi.jpg

A presenter, interviewer and moderator for different BBC World programs, Zeinab has met, and talked to, many interesting people, a variety of personalities, form General Franks to Dalai Lama, to Francis Fukuyama, Desmond Tutu... list is long, and she certainly has plenty of stories and anecdotes to tell. Even more importantly, she knows everything that I would like to know about inner workings of news/ media corporation, and how does the world(view) we got presented with gets shaped.

Next on the list is Garrett Lisi, best known as "the surfer dude who stunned the world of physics with theory of everything"... or something to that effect.
http://www.xs4all.nl/~zoc/gnothe/pix/GLisiADeGrey.jpg

Cosmology is one of my pet subjects, and I think that the Big Bang theory is flawed. Garrett, the bold guy on the left, is exactly the right person to discuss these matters with, somebody who can give a first hand assessment of the situation.

He may bring his friend Aubrey De Grey along, and that's alright with me.

Last but not least, here comes an alien:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~zoc/gnothe/pix/myFavourite.jpg

I'd really like to sit face to face with one of these aliens, and try to figure out who and what they are, what makes them thick. Do they like strawberry ice cream?
