What is your favorite Vietnamese food?
My friend suggested that we get Vietnamese for lunch today so I figured I would try something new. What do you suggest that I get from the Vietnamese place since he has no suggestions?

Well the most popular choice would be Pho, a bowl of rice noodles with beef broth. You can get it with different meats, like pork or beef tripe, flank, etc.
But what I usually get is Com Thit Nuong, which is rice with barbecue pork (or beef). Add it with the included Nuoc Mam (Vietnamese hot sauce, for lack of a better term) to give it more of a kick.
Also get the eggrolls! Great with Nuoc Mam, also.
Edit: These are pretty standard dishes great for anyone trying out Vietnamese food for the first time. The "crazier" dishes might not be something you'd like, and waste your money.

I love spicy lobster with rice.
Pho...it's usually a beef broth soup (with meat), comes with things like fresh sprouts, basil, mint and such to put in it. One of my absolute favorite things at vietnamese restaurants!
It depends on what you like best. Check the popular dishes here:

I like Bún chả, summer rolls and most of the curry dishes.

I always get vegetarian pad thai. I don't know if it is the same for all restaurants, but the place i get it from makes it with a mildly spicy sauce on noodles, with bean sprouts, tofu, peas and egg.
I love the vermicelli dishes, especially the BBQ beef with spring roll and a tiger shrimp.
And many of the pho dishes are great.
Curry chicken stew.
Beef and fried egg with rice.
I had better stop.

Pho is definitely the way to go if you aren't sure what you like yet. It comes in the same basic varieties as the general ramen noodle flavors but it is completely different. In general it is a filling meal of a huge bowl of either chicken, pork or beef broth with thinly sliced cuts of the respective meat of your choice. Usually they put in some onion slices and bean sprouts but you can ask for it without if you don't like those. If you go to a good Vietnamese restaurant they'll even ask you how well you want your beef cooked before they serve it.
The noodles really do change depending on the restaurant though. My favorite is with the glass noodles even if it isn't the most traditional, but really it all tastes pretty good and fills you up, and because the flavors aren't on the spicy side, but are very pronounced it's almost a sure thing to satisfy your palette.
