Tips for working out over the holidays?
OK...many fitness nuts will have to face the reality of stepping away from their usual workout place (gym) and traveling away for the holidays. Should this be a time to give your body a break or what? What can or should we addicts do? Personally, I lift weights 3 times a week and I'm going to a family holiday celebration for 10 days away from home where there's no equipment handy. I know a few days off is ok, but my body "complains" when too much time passes....I need a fix! Help with ideas.

Do something different: This is a great time to do something different for your work out. How creative can you be during the 10 days away? Go for a long walk. Help your mom clean up the garage. Go pull your nephew around in the little-red wagon. How many ways can you have fun and tax your muscles?

I would agree that it's best not to give your body a long break. Are you going to be in the middle of nowhere?! It's hard to believe that there isn't any gym relatively nearby but it might not be "handy". There are quite a few things that you can do at home with a bit of space using your own body weight even though it might not match your usual workouts. How about things like deep squats, lunges, push-ups, sit-ups, holding planks (side and push-up position) etc. There are quick a few abdominal exercises you can do and you can always walk, jog, or run for some cardio.

I agree with becky. alot of sit ups, push ups, triangle push ups etc will still give you the workout you need. 100 push ups will definantly give your pecks a work out. drmatt also had a great idea of spending time with your nephews and nieces and pulling them in a cart, this works for both them and you. you could also give them piggy back rides up and down a hill... have fun, be creative... wash a family members car, help reorganize the house... go for a few jogs around the block with the family dog... or a neighbors dog... if theres a pool nearby, take the kids for a swim... swimming works out all your muscles and puts no stress on them in doing it. cheers!
