Did you notice this mouse over pop-up in avatars in Mahalo Answers front page ?

When you move your mouse over an avatar in the Mahalo Answers front page, you can see a small pop-up providing some details about the user. You can also follow him from there.

Tip for best answer: M$0.16
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Wow thank you for pointing this out I did not know it would be a new feature.

*What do I think of it?
Interestingly fashionable feature that adds a bit of glamor and flash to the front page of Mahalo Answers.

*What can this be used for ?
I have no idea what this could be used for or its intended function except to make the front page more flashy and to give a "quick view" of a users profile. I do not know how this will integrate in future new features but I am going to assume there is something else to be added soon which will make the actual function of this feature more applicable.

*What other features do you see?
I did get to see that the "quick view" allowed a user link in the case of @coreymac to direct a user to an email address over a direct question. This I assume is the first line in our actual profile "bio" section.

I think its nice but wonder what additional features will be added to the function of it and the front page/our profiles that will really pull together the true function of this new pop up front page quick view profile feature.

I didn't know about this "feature"...

My first response is... "why"? I can't see caring about this information for a questioner. Who cares about the expertise of someone asking a question. It's the ANSWERS that need this information!

It's all about the answers...

As a programmer, I typically test things before calling them a "bug". Yes... I made sure that the answers did NOT do this behavior before making this comment.

it's not a bad idea-you can see the profile and the expertise if you are curious about that person

This was my idea.

We wanted to make it easier to see a) how "smart" someone was and b) what their "smarts" were in. This is not perfect, but obviously when you see someone has 300+ best answers and 50 of them are in food you know something.

It's not perfect, but it does give some information quickly. I actually wanted to have the number of best answers under the picture or on top of it, but that was too hard (database issues and obscuring people's photos).

Also, this lets you add people quicker.

Thanks for adding a reason to the thread...and I'm very grateful for some of the changes that have been made,

but can we just slow down on some of the new things and spend some time fixing some of the bugs we have around at the moment, especially the financial bug in the profile page that is duplicating tips and sharing rewards on both reports...and a list view, and the next button for scrolling through questions...etc

I know everyone is busy but we've been through a lot ( and lost a lot in the last 24 hours ) can we feel better by having everything working well? please

Very cool, and thanks for pointing it out!

Y'know where it might even be more functional? If you could check out ANSWERERS that way! I would think new users (especially) would be more interested in that kind of snap evaluation tool for an answerer than an asker.

VERY good pt, b.c.! I agree, and the importance of the stats can easily be overstated. The bio IS more helpful, but there is also some value to stats. (I noticed that the pop-up DOES appear to have the 1st few words of the bio - so, there is that recognition of your point.)

I like it, but hesitate to feel it's good to have it for purposes of "snap evaluation" of a user ... it's just stats. For a social motive, I think the best thing Mahalo could do is return the bio to a more prominent place on the profile. It's the bio sections that help us see Mahalo users as people vs. just stats and productivity.

I think it improves functionality to the social side of Mahalo. I especially like seeing how many BA a person has to see if they are a definitive crowd favorite.

Plus the pop is SO COOL!

Cheers!
