No, I do not remember any issues with Redoubt in '89. You might think that since I live in Texas it wouldn't be an issue anyway. However, I do recall seeing haze in the sky and even a dusty fallout from the sky after the Mount St. Helens eruption in 1980. So even if a volcano is thousands of miles away, the distribution of the smoke and dust plume can effect a wide area.
