The Greeks during Aristotle's era were familiar with brass. However, they didn't begin to use it regularly until Augustus' Imperial Rome. Copper and bronze replaced iron for weapons and tools. It was also used in architecture, art, and making pots.

Alloy brass, which is made by a combination or copper and zinc, was discovered sometime before 600 B.C. It was the state of Lydia, which is south of Troy in Western Turkey, that introduced the Greeks to coins. The coins were originally made with gold, silver, and copper.

Why did Copper and Bronze replace iron weapons? Were copper and bronze weapons stronger than Iron?
