Ok folks listen up an you will hear some advice from Uncle Doug( that's me). Thanksgiving is a family holiday and as your Uncle it is the perfect time to pass on knowledge that my father passed on to me and to my children:
When faced with two or more good choices, NEVER NEVER NEVER limit yourself to just one! TAKE THEM ALL.
The only correct answer is both.
And please don't stop there! At our family thanksgiving (which is held at my house), we have pecan pie, pumkin pie, sweet potato pie, raisin pie, apple pie, cherry pie, and sometimes... rhubarb-strawberry pie. If you have never had rhubarb-strawberry pie, you have a great treat ahead of you. Every year I get a plate and cut a small piece of each pie. It has been the best part of the day for twenty five years (except for 1993 when Dallas lost to Miami in the snow because that IDIOT Leon Lett tried to recover a blocked kick)

Not only does it taste better and go great with fresh whipped cream, but the pumpkin really is the quintessential fall gourd. The sweet potato is a delightful summer treat, fall treat, and winter and spring treat. It has all four seasons, so why should it get the spotlight on Thanksgiving too?
Give the pumpkin its due chance. Power to the pumpkins!

Any variation of Pumpkin Pie! There are of course some really good special kinds, like the pumpkin pie recipes here. I've actually never tried Sweet Potato Pie, but by my experience with normal sweet potatoes, I don't think I'd like it.
