Ways to combat SSRI-induced apathy?

I've found some articles like this one which describe apathy and lack of motivation in long-term users of SSRIs.

http://www.redorbit.com/news/health/333128/antidepressant_apathy_syndrome/

Are there any effective ways to fight SSRI induced apathy short of switching medications? Or are there antidepressants or combinations of antidepressants and other drugs which counteract the effects?

1. Talk to your psychiatrist/prescriber. I am not a doctor, just someone that likes the subject and reads a lot.

2. Drugs you can talk about with your doctor: Abilify, Zyprexa. They are both a type of drug considered atypical antipsychotic. Abilify while not specifically indicated for apathy can be an add-on drug to your existing SSRI treatment that can improve some symptoms. Zyprexa has been found to relieve apathy in some studies.

3. Some studies have shown that reducing the dosage of the SSRI can help with apathy.

4. This is just a personal suggestion. Do things that improve your mood like exercise, eating well, and mentally convince yourself that you will get over the apathy. While it sounds almost stupid and cliche I believe mental state has a lot to do with how you respond to treatment so make sure it's positive!
