After about a week of online research, I recently purchased a certified diamond from loosegiadiamonds.com after seeing their ad online.
My goal was to get the best diamond for my money. My budget was $3500 and I went into the process fairly knowledgeable about diamonds.
I live in Manhattan and visited 47th street (the Diamond District) on several occasions but was A) not crazy about paying state sales tax B) not getting the deals I wanted.
I ended up buying a 1.27 Carat, J Color, VS1 diamond for under $3400. This was hands down the best diamond deal I found on the web. I spoke with a salesman on the phone 3 separate times and had the certification sent to me beforehand. Definitely the best diamond buying experience I've had.

Where can I find the cheapest wholesale diamonds or loose diamonds without being a jeweler?
I've looked on blue nile, ice, etc but it seems like their diamonds aren't inexpensive enough. I'm thinking about buying a diamond wholesale if possible and then going to a jeweler to get it set in the engagement ring. Any suggestions would be really helpful. Thanks!

• Gave me good advice and comparisons with local wholesalers that I wouldn't have even had access to - and the person found a site that was even cheaper!

Thanks - I was wondering about the diamond districts. Any advice on getting the actual ring built? If I buy the diamond separately from the ring, can I still get it insured?
