There are a lot of ways to communicate your thoughts, including writing and speaking. Plus, you don't miss out anything by being dumb. You can still hear and see the beauty of the world. Besides, sometimes our slipped tongues can get us too many troubles. Maybe by being dumb I can think of what I will communicate to other people before it slips pass my tongue.

M$I tend to be very talkative. I know a lot of people get irritated by that, so being dumb may bring some happiness to many people.
As much as I love to talk, my vision and hearing are too valuable to me. They provide so much richness to my life that I would gladly give up my ability to speak to preserve them.
