Don't rush to raise your friends' expectations. They are fighting the odds and fighting human nature. As a guy, over the years I have found single mothers to be pretty much a waste of time and effort. Their kids take up too much of their time and energy. But, here are some points that may help.
Make sure you have someone to cover for you in caring for your kid(s), like a mother or sister or good friend. If you turn down an invitation or cancel at the last minute because of your kid your chances are doomed.
Never complain or even talk about your ex husband or boyfriend. Your date doesn't want to hear about it and will even be put off at the reminder of the risks of a relationship with you. Save it for conversations with your girlfriends.
Be sexier than the competition. Sex is the main natural tool for women to attract men. If you already have the disadvantage of having a kid, then you can't afford to give up your main weapon.
Here's a tip rarely used. Become a home brewer! Beer is a great social lubricant in itself; but, being a home brewer is a huge plus for a gal. (The female term for brewer is brewster, by the way). The way to a man's heart is through his beer, and good homebrew is a great way to attract one.
