In terms of everyone talking about how he broke his word by leaving the sport, I ignore all of that. It's like me announcing that I'm leaving teaching despite being a good teacher, and then a throng of cameras asking me if I promise not to come back, with the world waiting for me to say yes so that they can criticize me for failing to keep my word. It doesn't make sense to me.
I personally don't think the doping allegations are on many people's minds. He did pass his drug tests, and that's pretty much all we can do to prove he did or did not dope. Drugs are a big part of sports, so once a person passes their drug test, I'm as happy as I can be with that.
I'm glad he came back. I think he will do very well. He can win, but it's definitely possible at this point that he doesn't.
I hope he does something else with his temporary celebrity as well, like some good charity work or speaking up for a cause.

As far as his celebrity status, I think he's doing a ton of work on the cancer-fighting front. He has stated that his entry back into cycling will help get the word out on fighting cancer. I'm not sure even "he" expects to win it all this year, but he wins if the effort helps his Livestrong cause (www.livestrong.org).

Haha, I should have said *keeps* doing something with his celebrity status. I can't believe I completely forgot about his Wriststrong bracelet program.

Good question for the cycling crowd.
I have yet to evaluate this comeback but I think Lance will do as good as his team allows him to be. The team is so vital to his success.
I do feel that he has to win in order to avoid his past successes being tainted. Many people will suspect that doping was the key to his former wins if he does not take the 09 tour.

Good point about the team. In cycling, your team needs to totally support you in order to be successful. Astana has an excellent team this year with Contador and Armstrong.
G'day 4score,
Thank you for your question.
Road cycling could sure use some good news after recent drug scandals. I hope that he does well but it will be hard for him to come back to his former glories given his age and his time away.
