For all the people who say,"send them to Iraq". Why don't you take all the children, line them up, and shoot them thru the head? Because that's whats going to happen if you send them to Iraq.

Would you watch an Oprah interview with Nadya Suleman?
Apparently, the octuplets' mother wants Oprah Winfrey or Diane Sawyer to pay her $2 million for an interview. Would you watch?

No. That woman belongs in a mental institution. Her parents belong in jail for bringing her up so badly and not doing anything to stop her. She should not have custody of these babies who will be mentally ill as well if she brings them up. And of course, she should be spayed. Not one dime of taxpayer money should go to assist this family in any way. The doctors involved should be made to pay all costs, which should include deporting the whole family back to Iraq. Have I left out anything? This monster has no excuse.

I certainly am angry about this crazy and antisocial woman creating such a tragic situation for her family and such a huge burden for the taxpayers. Do you realize she was already on food stamps and two of her first children are getting disability payments from the government? And it has nothing to do with race. I stand by what I first said.

Yes, I find her fascinating. I would love to sit on the couch and watch Oprah or Diane ask her thought provoking questions. I want to find out why she became this way. Because obviously we all know she is in the wrong. Freakishly wrong. She mentions her dysfunctional family. It would be interesting to get some insight on her. At the same time, one must be very careful with a post-partum woman, if she is vulnerable to depression it would have a horribly adverse effect on all the children. Also, if she ends up getting money for her children, it can only help her. She now has so many kids to take care of and no husband or real means of support, if we the people of this country don't support her... then we might as well neglect all those children too. For all the people who say,"send them to Iraq". Why don't you take all the children, line them up, and shoot them thru the head? Because that's whats going to happen if you send them to Iraq.

No, I would not watch an interview with her, especially if she had paid for it. She stated she needs the money to help raise the children, which leads me to the following.
Why wasn't the question of whether she could support them raised and answered before she even had the last IVF? Or after she had the first couple of them? You can't depend on money from interviews to pay for your children.... What if she had twins again or triplets?? There would be no media exposure therefore no monies. And for sending them back to Iraq... are they US citizens or here on visas? I dont see a need to punish those innocent babies for the actions of an irresponsible mother, Iraq is not a safe place, just ask our troops. As someone with a history of depression I can't fathom why she had another IVF with the potential of so many babies. Not knowing how you can afford 6 let alone 14 is setting herself up for another breakdown. I am not against single women having babies, but how is it possible for a single person to care for all of those children? Preemie babies need a lot extra care and she is relying on family, friends and her church. I am of the opinion you should not have more children than you can care for financially or with your core family.... and grandparents are extended family.
I am not sure how she thinks she is going back to college this fall. She criticized parents who are emotionally unavailable to their children, yet expects herself to have enough to spread her love among 14 childrens, 8 infants included. Yes I believe there is enough love to spread, but how will she have enough time to do so? Where is the time for one on one interaction? It is recommended you hold infants when you feed them to encourage bonding, so how on earth does she expect to bond with them when they are fed with bottle proppers? When she is up all night with infants (granted they will be out of the newborn stage but the idea all of them will sleep through the night consistently is absurd) how will she have enough energy to get her other 6 ready before tackling the daunting process of getting 8 infants up? then go to school and do homework?
And will someone PLEASE explain to me how she cared for 6 children when she was pregnant with 8? One is exhausting but come on 8? Its amazing enough she was able to do more than sleep and eat. How is it enough possible someone who is on disabililty for a BACK INJURY could even function? My back killed me and I was pregnant with one.... with no pre-existing back problems.
Where did the money come from to build this big house the grandfather claims they have? Seems to me if you declared bankruptcy the funds would not be there to build a house large enough for 6 kids, let alone 14. My daughter is 2 and I cannot imagine buying 8 car seats, 8 swings, 8 cribs etc.
People are generally not aware of how many fetal deaths are caused by prematurity. I should look on the March of Dimes website for statistics, but I do know my son was born at 1 lb 6 oz and died of prematurity. Had he lived he was at extreme risk for lifelong problems including cerebral palsy and lung issues. I would have gladly raised a disabled child whom i could love his entire life, I just wish his life was more than 25 days. I know a lot of other people in the same situation and the lifelong pain from losing a child is indescribable.
But the overall question in my mind is why she risked those childrens lives.... multiple fetuses raises potential pregnancy complications exponentially as well as complications of prematurity. I find it disgusting she was willing to have such a high risk pregnancy with the possibilty of losing even one child. I absolutely do not believe in selective reduction, however I question the rationale of transferring 6 embryos. Risking a sextuplet pregnancy, or even quads is extremely risky and I highly doubt those kids will not have lifelong problems. The smallest was 1 lb 11 oz (or so).... the largest was just over 3 lbs. She says life is full of risks, but what kind of mother would gamble with her childrens lives.... Freeze the embryos and try another IVF at a later point would be preferable to an octuplet pregnancy. I truly hope she does not profit from such an irresponsible act.
I am absolutely disgusted by the thought that other people, especially impressionable younger people looking forward to starting a family, would think this "happy ending" for such a risky pregnancy is the norm. More often than not, there is the utter heartache of losing a baby or having lifelong complications. It sickens me to think that other women would be tempted to emulate her.

kellys 1974,
I totally agree with your point of view. But you must know she is obviously mentally sick. This is a rare and sick case. She needs help. But the question now is, what to do? Do we leave them to fend for themselves so that all 14 children become a parasite to our society? Or worse? Obviously she does not have the means or the ways to raise them properly. As for her the ethics and morals she might teach her children, those are in question too.

rubyhlaid, you are absolutely right. the issues with this situation seem neverending. her mental health is an incredibly important concern. i have been speaking with other people about her interview and everyone seems so concerned that people are only concerned about the number of her children when the real issues go much deeper than that. i hope that people become educated on the situation before they make their minds up. my fear is that people will form their opinions based on that interview, the "mother" just doesnt get it and her comments are all about the criticism she is a single mother. i suppose that line of thinking skirts the real criticism on the more important issues. i was watching the bit they had on the today show and was just yelling at the screen. it is unbelievable she feels persecuted....

Right Kelly, was that I totally missed the "Today" show. I've been debating with my husband about this. What does one do with those women who keep having babies who obviously can't afford them. I know in 3rd world countries like India there are some doctors who see women with 7 or 8 kids who have bad health and no money, and what they do is "sterilize" them without them knowing. Because if they knew they wouldn't agree due to religious reasons or cuz they want more boys. But I have heard of more than one doctor say that they do that to these certain cases of women.
I don't know if its right or wrong. But what can we do in our country? Certainly doing what they do in some 3rd world country would be lawsuit city.
What if someone's religious belief is that they have to have 10 children?
I just don't know where to reasonably cross the line.

for me the issue is not the number of children she has per se (although she certainly doesnt have adequate means to support them) the problem for me is that she had 6 embryos implanted at one, resulting in 8 babies. that pregnancy is a high risk pregnancy, and the odds it would end up like it did are astronomically high - although thankfully for those babies they are alive to this point. had she transferred the recommended number of embryos and had the babies over the course of 4+ pregnancies i wouldnt have as big a problem with it. infants are extraordinarily expensive, have a few out of diapers then start again. i think the doctor should have his license removed for this fiasco. have the number of kids you want... if you can afford them. model yourself after the duggars if need be, but modify it for the single parent. the duggars can afford the children themselves and have an internal family structure designed so no child is lacking for instruction and attention. certainly not conventional, but they receive no public aid and have a house built for that many children.. they do not require grandparents help. she is presenting the issue to be that she is a single parent, but the question is why she assumed the risk for a pregnancy that could have had such dire consequences.

good point kelly! I have a 2 year old, and I hear you about the diapers! I didn't know you can have all 8 of your embryos at different points in time. I thought you would have to have all 8 and if you select fewer then the others would have to die.

yes, the embryos she had implanted were frozen from a previous cycle. she said she had transferred so many at once because of her fertility issues... blocked tubes. not a problem with her uterus, just blocked tubes. i have been reading her mothers interviews, which are polar opposite to hers. also see http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/ toward the bottom of the page for pictures of the interior of her home. i dont see where she even remotely has the room for 8 babies, she doesnt even have enough room for those already living there. i am going to watch dateline tonight for the full interview as she wasnt paid for it.
