It is nearly possible to tell beforehand how big an eruption will be, and seeing as though Mount Saint Helens and Mount Redoubt are both stratovolcanoes, it seems like they might have around the same explosiveness.
If you use the word "Bad" to mean cost to human life and property, then it will still be hard to tell. Mount Redoubt is about 100 miles from Anchorage Alasksa, while Mount Saint Helens was about that same distance from Portland, Oregon.
As with all natural disasters, it is going to be extremely hard to predict exactly how bad it will be.
