Are you sure that isn't Boss Hogg from the Dukes of Hazard?

My initial reaction is that he looks like that because he is crazy.... I'd never heard of him but a quick wiki search Shows that he is the leader of "the monster raving loony party" so it proves that my first opinion was correct!
The "loony party" started off as a joke, by pitching a 'loony' candidate in some elections and have since gone on to be less funny with every passing year.
Their current manifesto includes the following policies
--quote---
To combat global warming and climate change all buildings should be fitted with air conditioning units on the outside.
Education
It is proposed that, before the beginning of exams, the exam board will select a certain obscure phrase which will be kept secret. If any pupil inadvertently writes this phrase in any exam,he/she will automaticaly receive straight A* grades, and a free teddy.
Crime

Good Heroes
Make it illegal for super heroes to use their powers for evil.
Scary Terrorists
Ban all terrorists from having beards as they look scary.

Why does British politician Howling Laud look like a typical Carolina Congressman?
Recent events having drawn attention to similarities and differences between British and American politicians. I happened to notice the resemblance of candidate Howling Laud to Congresman Frog of Pogo, among others. Any insight from either side of the Atlantic (or Pacific if offered) would be appreciated.

I see that in the latest election for a seat in Parliament he came in 9th out of 12. Far behind the Green candidate but well ahead of the Libertarian candidate. Those are two parties we have here in Louisiana. We don't have a MRLP or for that matter a Conservative Party, the latter being the winner.
