According to NBC 7 News (Boston), the UN confirmed the kidnapping of American John Solecki, "Senior police official Khalid Masood said Solecki was an American who
had worked in Quetta for more than two years. The U.N. confirmed
Solecki had been kidnapped, but would not specify where he was from."
Perhaps more information will be released in the coming days. If I find anything, I will certainly let you know.

It appears both his father and brother live in South Orange N.J. so I would say there is a good chance he is from there.
Quote from a NY Times article:
At the South Orange, N.J., home of Mr. Solecki’s father, Ralph Stefan Solecki, a prominent anthropologist and professor emeritus at Columbia University, a younger man with red-rimmed eyes who answered the door turned away questions, saying, “Nothing right now — nothing, nothing.” The family did not return telephone calls.
The missing official’s brother, William, an environmental scientist who also lives in South Orange, did not respond to messages at his office at the City University of New York’s Institute for Sustainable Cities at Hunter College. In August, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg appointed William Solecki co-chairman of a new task force, the New York City Panel on Climate Change.

John Solecki used to live in Demarest, New Jersey. My brother Douglas Strickholm was friends with him in middle school. Our family's thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. If anyone wants to visualize, pray, light a candle, meditate for his safe return, you can download a free visualization page at http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dg85mjqg_0cwp2dwfj&hl;=en.
