This is not the most brutal attack in history. Chimpanzees have been known to attack and kill children in Uganda, and stock car driver St. James Davis was put into critical condition for many months in after his pet chimpanzee attacked him.

St. James Davis was NOT attacked by his pet chimp, but by two other chimps that escaped from their cages at a sanctuary.

Ah, you're correct about that. I should have read the St. James Davis story more closely. I wish you had posted this yesterday so I could have edited the answer to not be in error.

What do you expect - it was the owner's fault, taking an animal out of its natural habitat - no matter how long it had been domesticated, this was bound to happen sooner or later! I feel sorry for the chimp, and after all we still don't know if the victim might not have done something to set the chimp off - after all in a prior 'attack'/pursuit - in 2003 a man had thrown a hard object at the chimp - naturally Travis ran after the man - in self-defense!
