The offense she committed had to deal with sex, but I always thought of being a sex offender as someone having any type of sex with someone unwilling. Found an easy to read roundup of Colorado sex laws, and I don't see anything relating to her case.

Now, I think the woman is totally wacked after reading this on CNN: They then learned that Sligar had changed the primary beneficiary on an insurance policy from her children to McClain. A subsequent search of her home turned up the journal and photographs.

She definitely is a woman in need of some boundaries!

But Colorado has some weird sex laws, did you know that in Colorado, it is against the law to kiss a sleeping woman?

From the information I have... I think this is a poor use of the word "sex offender". I believe this terminology should be reserved for those who have had sex with minors or serious sex offenses such as rape.

Here in California, I am mandated to report child abuse... this includes rape, sodomy, and specific consentual sex situations. Those might be better guidelines for "sex offender".

But, then again, it depends on what the law is in her state. The state gets to define what "sex offender" means.

According to CNN
"Janine Sligar, 47, of Wray, Colorado, was sentenced Thursday for sexual abuse of a ward. After serving her sentence, she will serve five years of supervised release and must register as a sex offender, spokesman Jeff Dorschner said in a news release."

Therefore, this woman, because she was in a supervisory position, will be required to register in the database of sex offenders. So-aside from 'terminology'--she is now classified as a "registered sex offender."
