Honestly? Without knowing him personally it's hard to form an opinion on this and most cases. I would hope it's not true, but after all the sex crime that happen in these so-called "modern times" between teachers and students, he just may be guilty.

I am a former student of Mr. Vos. I can't say I remember him to be anything but a caring, nice teacher. But, one never knows what lurks underneath. I certainly feel for his wife and children. What a horrible thing. Nobody wins here.

Although unfortunate, it's highly likely the man was guilty. Unless autopsy determines otherwise, the man hung himself shortly after being arrested and charged. That speaks volumes. If he was innocent, he would have fought the charges, despite the hard road he would have faced in doing so. I think the guilt, the shame, and the upcoming punishment he would have faced if convicted all led to the final outcome (his death). Also, the police investigated for several months and finally arrested him only after determining they had sufficient evidence to bring the charges against him. Again, if he was innocent, I think he would have let the defense in court prove his innocence - unless - slim chance - he was innocent but just was too troubled to face the trials to come in spite of the innocence. This is possible, but unlikely. If we were to believe that the student made this stuff up, then this means this teacher committed suicide for no other reason then fear that his side of the story would not be believed or that even if he was proven innocent, his reputation would have been irrevocably damaged. That would be a real shame. What is more likely is that this was a troubled man who, though good and kind at times (as I have read from some former students' commentary on other web posts) had urges that instead of reaching out to seek help for, he failed to control and acted out on, instead. I feel very sad for him, his family, and also the victim. Generally good people can still struggle with dark urges that they should seek help for and not act out on. The behavior is wrong and destructive to all involved. This was a real shame. This behavior should be prevented if possible, and punished if not. Otherwise it becomes a perpetuating thing.
