The current Miss America, Katie Stam (Indiana), used her education to help her to become Miss America. "The senior communications major has won awards for her work in student journalism. She interned at WTHR in the summer of 2007. Friends on campus say her broadcasting background helped her win the pageant and they're not surprised she took home the crown." Actress Lee Meriwether ("Barnaby Jones") became Miss America in 1955 and the first African-American Miss America, Vanessa Williams (1984) who had to resign her title due to scandal. However, she did manage to go one to become a successful singer and currently stars on ''Ugly Betty"

I think you have to consider the nature of the contest rather than find probably non-recorded statistics. The primary requirement for a beauty queen is to be beautiful. Other things are all very well but that is the consistent requirement. So, if the lady wants a career which requires, or at least strongly favors, being beautiful, she has good odds. That would seem to be why actress or other entertainment figure seems to be the best bet. One queen who became an actress (TV soap) but not apparently a particularly good one has recently been in the news by stressing her physical attributes and switching to porn movies. These days, I have noticed the current fashion for newscasters to be beautiful women. Old, gray men seem to have lost the hold on the profession that they had when I was younger. So this current Miss America is probably on the right track for a newscaster job.
