Do you think the mother of the California octuplets is selfish?
Some are saying that Nadya Suleman, who already had six children before giving birth to octuplets, was selfish in taking a risk bringing eight more children into the world via in vitro fertilization. What is your opinion?

I work for an infertility specialist, and we would NEVER implant more then 3 embryo's per cycle, the risk is just too high, and in the case of someone as young, and as successful in acheiving pregnancies from IVF the doctors would suggest 1, but might allow 2 if the pt was so inclined.
Do I think she is selfish? Absolutely! I mean, she has 6 kids already, THEY need her, she has an autistic son, he NEEDS her! How does she pay for a nanny? Gorceries? Shelter? Transportation? Medical? Schooling? Clothes? The list goes on and on. Very disturbing
However, that being said, if I found out I was pregnant with 8 babies, I wouldn't be able to terminate any either. But then again, I didn't have 6 children already, and I would NEVER make the foolish mistake of implanting that many embryos!

Once those eggs were fertilized and growing inside the mother, they deserved a chance at life as much as the children she already had. `If anyone is to blame for the risk it is the doctor who placed so many in the womb. She would have had to abort viable fetuses later on after learning that so many had taken and were growing normally which is murder.
It's so hard to comment not knowing the exact circumstances. I personally feel you should only have children you can care for yourself.
I'm not sure. I don't know enough about her or the situation to state an opinion. What I do know is that it should absolutely be up to the medical facilitities to monitor these things. I mean there are tons of bad moms single "or not" out there that have baby's everyday. But I think this case is different because medical staff had some power to prevent it - if she was unfit. She was a client 'requesting' in vitro fertilisation. And in vitro fertilisation should not be given to just anyone wether they are a single mom or whatever....it should not just be a matter of 'sure we'l do it for you if you are willing to pay'. I wonder....did they do an assesment of her situation and health in general? And if they did - is that assesment effecient? So if it does turn out that she is an unfit mother which we don't know at this point....I blame the medical facilities that let this happen more then anything.
Yes, because for every minute she spent in a clinic trying to conceive her 8th child, that is a minute that could have been given to a woman or a couple who have never had any children and are unable to without the help. The fact that even her own mother says she is 'obsessed with children' should indicate that this is not a healthy family for those octuplets to be born into. And all this from a family that had declared bankruptcy and abandoned a house a little over two years ago, how can they possibly expect to support those children financially?
It has not yet been explained how she came to have octuplets either, as the US guideline for IVF is two embryos per impregnation.

i dont know if it would be considered selfish..maybe she just really wanted kids.except for the fact that the media claims she already has 6..
i dont know how she will be able to afford 14 children if all live but im sure she can think of something. However i think that the people who worked at the fertilization center should be questioned as to why they implanted so many eggs in the first place. The normal is 2 or 3,not 8.So for you people that say its all her fault.its not.

I can't believe so many people can actually talk to her like she has done something wrong! its disgusting! If you do your research, she wanted more children, but her reproductive system was aging faster than the rest of her! She is using her student loan to live off of, but she is paying it back!
And the Invetro put in more than normal because so many failed before, and this was close to being her last chance! The problem is money money money! Well, my children are worth every penny I have ever paid, and I do NOT mind paying out to help others. Children are the future generation. For someone to question the motives, it makes it doubtful you will actually be a decent parent. There are lots of Good people in America that will lend a helping hand. I for one will definitely try to help somehow!

I feel for the children and hope they don't give her ( the mother) any press or money. I'm curious if anyone suggested a psychological evaluation.
To encourage this travesty is not good for society at large and the innocent who will bare the real consequences--the children.
