Unfortunately I never met the man, (Not that I can recall anyway) .
(Although I would have liked to)
Some in the North eastern climate coalition have evilly welcomed this day =(

In the past I have indirectly had opposition with the Kennedy clan due to their incredulity toward the Cape Wind project.

I have tried to have the least amount of bias however -when managing the Edward Kennedy page.

But for me RIGHT NOW I just will remember Teddy and his brothers as servants who floated on the wind of the sails of New England and Hardened the strength of those who have served their country.

The following picture (in this photo colored) was originally published in the providence journal editorial section many years ago.

Yes Kennedy and his family where known opponents of cape wind however I believe they have served their country with great admiration and passion.

Kind Regards,
XDS

He was a part of the Senate my entire life. He outlived his brothers and endured the gossip and all the press coverage of his most terrible points in life.
I did not agree with some of his politics but he was always passionate about what he believed in.

Q: How will you best remember Ted Kennedy?

A: He had a problem with sleepwalking and avoided assasination, yet still got to do a royal telling-off of the powers that be right in the middle of the darkest days of the ChenyBush regimen.

As a kind modest man who forever changed the health care of the world. He is a legacy of our kind. A great man he was it is a shame he is gone.

I remember him best from what was probably the first speech of his that I ever heard. There's no doubt that he was a passionate advocate for the people that don't have it so good in this world, and over his life he did plenty to help.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydHc-ExClqw

This is the first part, the rest of the speech is on YouTube as well.

I will remember him as a great man. Period. Politics aside. Drunk driving death incident aside. He was a true humanitarian, and geniunely cared for people. He was involved in moving towards freedom from racism, both here and in Ireland. He did great things with his family name and fortune. He is truly the epitomy of the Kennedy brand. His shoes will literally take a lifetime to fill, if at all.

Thanks

I remember what I was doing when both his brothers were taken. When my wife told me this morning about Ted it all came out. I will remember what his brothers fought for and the sacrifices they made.

Most of all I will remember that one of the three brothers lived to see a African American become President and that would be how I remember Ted.

We all lost something special today

I will remember Ted Kennedy as the first government representative I corresponded with. I grew up in Massachusetts. When we were learning to write letters in grade school, we each had to write to a government representative. I chose Ted Kennedy.

I wish I had kept a copy of the letter I sent to him. I was in third or fourth grade at the time, and I'm sure the letter would be a hoot to read now. I do have the response he wrote to me. I came across it a couple of years ago when going through some old boxes of papers. Now I just need to remember which safe place I put it in.

I will remember him as a person that had flaws ( who doesn’t ) but was a giant among senators. He fought the good fight, he really cared about this nation and its citizens, and I am not sure you can say that about most senators. He came from a privileged background and yet gave so much of himself, he could have just took his money and connections and made even more money but instead he chose to work hard for America and make life better for most people, it is what drove him. He fought battles for civil rights, health care and Labor.
I personally have a relative that worked under him years ago when he ran for president and she said he is a very nice man in private unlike say the guy he opposed. He will be missed, I really cannot think of anyone better as a senator than him. I disagreed with him on immigration but overall he was a tireless fighter for the people.
I will remember him as someone who loved his country.

Well... This is quite a love-fest. Understandable I suppose since the loss of any powerful figure creates emotion and generally rose tinted memories.

I have no real social capital here so I suppose nothing is really at risk save dealing with the inevitable attacks. I don't remember the Ted Kennedy most of you do. This is based on opinion and fact.

Opinion: Where I grew up, Ted Kennedy got away with murder because of who he was. His behavior throughout the rest of his life proved he learned nothing. He crashed an airplane while intoxicated and was arrested innumerable times for reckless driving (also no doubt intoxicated). He was above the law.

Fact: Ted Kennedy championed principals of government control, wealth redistribution and socialism in the borders of the United States.

Fact: Ted Kennedy supported legislation that permitted the government to confiscate guns from law abiding citizens.

Fact: Ted Kennedy supported legislation allowing illegal aliens to collect Social Security.

Opinion: Ted Kennedy frequently used his bully pulpit to skewer others for deeds which he himself could easily be demonstrated to be equally guilty. His position secure and his "fans" memories conveniently short, he seemed willing to say things that were frequently ludicrous if put to any real test.

Opinion: Ted Kennedy was a powerful and influential man, of this there is no doubt. I will remember him as someone who misused this power and whose supporters were forever blind to this in some sort of fan worship.

Do you even know what socialism is? He advocated a fairer system, sure we could be like Somalia by why? At the time he admitted he got away with something that a less powerful person would have went to jail for. What did Cheney say when he shot someone in the face and waited a day to talk to the police? Keep in mind this guy also has gotten DUIs.
Did he have warts? Yes! But he fought for the average and the down trodden, now I disagree with giving aid to illegal’s, but you know what if they did not get hired they would not come here, when you go to a company like Carls Jr , Jack in the Box or Ashworth Golf and the persons name is changed from a month ago, guess what this employer knows exactly what they are doing, when they tell they work the jobs Americans wont what they really mean is the jobs Americans wont work for low pay and abuse.

Ted Kennedy crashed an airplane? You must have read that on Fox News, where they inexplicably inserted the bit about John F. Kennedy, Jr., crashing his plane in 1999. Why that's in the piece other than to add something else negative, I dunno, because it apparently confuses people that don't read carefully.

I assume you also have a low regard for Bush II's drunken/drugged antics and are unsympathetic to Laura Bush's terrible tragedy, when she ran a stop sign and killed a classmate?

Fact: All reasonable people support some form of gun control. Personally, I draw the line at selling AK47s to teenagers at 7-11.

Fact: Sen. Kennedy supported legislation allowing *formerly* illegal aliens (who had since become legal) to be credited for SS taxes payments they made while illegal (i.e., they paid the taxes, are now citizens and would like to collect what is fairly coming to them).

Correcting my misstatement. He was nearly killed in a light airplane crash in 1964. He was not the pilot but there was alcohol involved.

Didn't realize that in order to be critical of Kennedy it was necessary to announce the same position on every potential politician (or is it only republicans?) who has similar behavior patterns. So, for the record, I don't support anyone who habitually abuses alcohol and then puts others at risk by climbing behind the wheel. I'm also not in favor of hunting accidents, but I do prefer the outcome when those involved provide aid to the victims who live to tell the tale.

I do not refute the position that all reasonable people support some form of gun control, it is simply irrelevant.

I would like to say I called this, but that really isn't necessary, is it?

Please continue to Canonize the revered and beloved Mr. Kennedy.

I'm against illegal immigration, but is it wrong to support what is coming to someone that becomes legal?
Again I will say it if employers did not hire illegals they would not come.
and as far as Ted Kennedy goes he went above and beyond for his country, sure he did things I did not like but he generally had the nations best interests at heart.

No, whiskeybravo, you made a bunch of inaccurate attacks, some based on your inability to read, some based on your inability to think independently and critically. I corrected your facts for you. You're welcome.

If you would care to look up evidence for your three "facts" and provide it here, that would be nice. Like when Kennedy supported the "Gun Confiscation Program" or the "Give Social Security to Illegal Aliens" bill or the "Let's Call it Amerika" act. Otherwise, all we got is your obsession over an accident and some shenanigans that happened after it over 40 years ago.

Oh, and I didn't say anything in support of Ted Kennedy at all, so your theory of worship and canonization is also "Refuted".

So it was I who attacked by listing "How I remember" Ted Kennedy? Hmmm, interesting.

Believe what you wish, you have refuted nothing other than to cause me to clarify my reference to the plane crash incident. Thank you. You simply confirmed every fact I stated and provided additional detail. Thank you again

I did not and do not support a great majority of the things Ted Kennedy stood for, nor the way he manipulated the public to push those issues forward. For that, I can not and will not apologize nor recant. The fact that you want to discuss the minutia does not change the basic principal.

I suppose my error, if there was one, was that I bothered trying to support why I felt the way I did by selecting a tiny fraction of the innumerable issues on which I disagreed with Uncle Ted. As always it is pointless to try and explain to someone why you disagree with them and far easier to simply claim that they don't know what they are talking about. I suspect you DO know what you are talking about, but quite clearly you view the same facts from a very different perspective than do I. In my world that is OK. It appears that in your world, not so much.
