Chimpanzees, though they seem to carry many "human" qualities, are very dangerous animals. They're not dangerous 99.9% of the time, but that 0.1% is more than most people should probably risk.

The Stamford one, Travis, was also ill, and on medication at the time of the attack. That probably contributed to his mood and behaviour.

While chimpanzees are not usually this aggressive or dangerous, they can do extraordinary amounts of damage when they go into rages. The most troubling part is that these rages are not predictable in any way. A chimpanzee with no history of violent behavior, in the care of loving people, can and have historically attacked people they are familiar with. Chimpanzees, though they seem to carry many "human" qualities, are very dangerous animals. They're not dangerous 99.9% of the time, but that 0.1% is more than most people should probably risk.

Sure, chimps can be dangerous, but they are not considered to be particularly aggressive animals. The Stamford one, Travis, was also ill, and on medication at the time of the attack. That probably contributed to his mood and behaviour.
