How did Aaron Bruns get a job at Fox News if he got kicked out of school for owning child pornography?

Bruns began working for Fox News in 2002. Fox News did not start doing background checks on prospective employees until 2003.

Fox News started doing background checks in 2003, Bruns was hired prior to that.

He was "chucked out" not convicted of (being criminally involved) with child pornography if I am correct. In fact, were he a felon (convicted of a felony in the usa) - it would still be up to the discretion of FOX to hire him or not. I think that's the case with most companies these days.
