Is William Petersen returning full-time to his character, Gill Grissom, on CSI?

I watched the latest CSI this weekend and while I enjoyed Lawrence Fishburne on the show, I wasn't impressed with the character that has been written for him.

I enjoy the show but am nervous that I may quickly stop watching the show without Grissom.

Can anyone refer me to accurate sources of information that say one way or another when and if he's coming back?

How about msnbc.com Grissom announces he’s leaving ‘CSI’.
Or fan site CSI Files.
Or 'CSI's' Petersen: 'I won't miss Grissom' on CNN.com.

I'd say it's pretty much a done deal - for better or worse. I'm going to miss his character too, but I'm willing to get Fishburne a chance.

To finish on a bright note - Petersen is still keeping his producer title and has promised to return for an occasional episode. Probably not until next season though.

That's some good searching there lyonsden, thank-you.

However, there isn't anything concrete there. CNN's article was perhaps the closest to the source with direct conversation between the producers, Petersen and the author. However, the article is filled with ambiguity mentioning that "he'll be back if called", etc.

I have to think that if ratings slip for the gold link in the CSI franchise chain that his character will return.

Can you prove me wrong?

Petersen has explained in many interviews over the past two weeks that he is tired of playing the same character, and that he wants to do more theater. He is not fully leaving the show, he stays as an executive producer.
