Why do credit cards, such as Texaco (and others) have VISA on them.

Texaco offers a regular credit card without the logo and another with the VISa logo. What's the difference?

One is a complete credit card from VISA. The other is a credit card like a Sears card or JCPenny's card.

The VISA works as a visa. You can buy anything you want on it.

The other card only allows you to buy gas at Texaco stations.

Additionally, cards with the Visa logo (as opposed to Mastercard or American Express) identify to the user and the merchant that the transaction will take place in the Visa transaction network. If the merchant is not a member of the Visa Transaction network they would likely not accept the card because they could not process the transaction.
