Good flowers for garlands are nerium odorum, marigold, jasmine, tube rose, champa etc. Nerium odorum is the most heavenly fragranced flower, commonly grown and available in peninsular India.
You can use any flower you fancy, its just that highly fragranced flowers are usually preferred. Roses and hibiscuses can be incorporated in a multi flower garland. Leaves can also be interspersed between the flowers.
In India we use needle and thread and pierce it through the middle of each flower and make a garland of any size.
Approximately 150 to 200 rose flowers are needed to make a garland which can be weared around the neck.
If you keep ready garlands in a thin plastic bag in the fridge they remain fresh.

• That was really a great answer. I watched the video and I sure know how to make this knot now! Living in the mountains, you enabled me to make those nice flower garlands from our local flora, my first one will be for the head. I just love it! Thank you again so much! Mahalo!!!
