What's people's view of my profile image, the flag of Uganda?

Of all the flags of the world this is definitely my favorite.

That's why I have chosen it as my profile image, I just thought i'd ask mahaloians if they'd noticed the flag around and if they liked it?

I mentioned the that Ugandan flag was flying around here recently in a posting.
I guess it was my way of telling you:
"Hello there new and quickly up and coming Mahaloian"

It would be interesting to find out a little more history on the crowned crane that is in the middle of the flag. I could only find out that the crane was used as a symbol during the British Rule.
Hmmm....

Are you from Uganda? If not where are you from and what is the flag of your country?

Yes I saw your post and was impressed you knew at the time it was the flag of Uganda, at least if i'm achieving one thing on Mahalo, educating people on the flag of Uganda.

The bird on the flag is the "Red Crested Crane", see http://www.flagsinformation.com/ugandan-country-flag.html
It's the national symbol of Uganda. See photo below.

I'm not from Uganda, i'm a massive fan of flags of the world and am the author/developer of the popular flags website http://www.flagsinformation.com, currently I have 20,000 page views per month.

Like Mahalo I try to make money on that site through Google Adsense adverts, this can be slow progress sometimes but is generally worth the effort.

I'm currently 6th on the Mahalo widget, all of them served from my flags of the world page (544 times) to http://www.flagsinformation.com/a-z.html

I live in England, so I have two flags (attached), the flags of England and the United-kingdom.

Hey @bestpay... since you're such a fan of flags from around the world... I thought of something interesting. I was just watching the news and also reading about how twitter has reacted to what's going on in Iran.
You could change your avatar to a flag of a country that has something you think is important going on. You could also put a short little something about it in your profile (the fact you like flags.. blah.. and reason for picking a particular flag at the time.. blah).
Since we are getting to know you, I don't think it would confuse too many people since we already know how much you love flags.
Hey that's just me, but I thought it would be an interesting idea, and make more people aware here of the many beautiful flags! Most people don't know much more about flags than their own country's.
(food for thought...)

It's lovely and very colorful. I had no idea what the Uganda flag looked like before this.

I also wanted to educate people as to what various flags of the world looked like, as this is a passion and hobby of mine.

The Ugandan flag is outstandingly beautiful especially if viewed close up. It's an amazing piece of art if you buy one, normally you can buy decent sizes for less than $10.

My profile image is a little blurred, so here's the pride of Uganda in all its glory.

I'm a massive fan of flags of the world, that's why I created that page on Mahalo, hope you like it?

It was a close call between Uganda and Albania as to which flag I wnet with as my profile image but I decided eventually to choose Uganda.

Here's the Albania flag just to show you what I nearly chose!

The Albania flag looks a lot like the "bad guy" country emblem they used in all the original Mission Impossible TV series (seasons 1-3).

Sadly I did not recognize your icon as a flag. I'm horribly uneducated on things outside my areas of interest.

@bestpay I think its great. I love the way it POPs off the page. I certainly like the idea of doing something to separate oneself from the crowd.

Love this answer, that's exactly why I picked the Ugandan flag, because it pops off the page and to separate from the rest of the profile images.

I also works with charities who support Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania so there's a personal link too.

Yeah I have noticed it. I figured it was a flag, but I didn't know from where. I think it's ok. If you were to change it, I would pick something that is more representative of yourself.

Now that's an interesting thought.

What would be more representative of myself?

As it's midnight here in the United-Kingdom, I think I shall have to sleep on that!

Well a picture of yourself would be the most representative, but you could also go with something that you like, or something you are interested in.

I think if i'd gone with a picture of me, well I wouldn't have got anywhere near the number of compliments I have with this post.

I therefore decided to go with the flags theme as flags of the world are a passion of mine and Uganda is my favorite flag. This flag represents me better than anything else I can think of!

@bestpay - I think its great!

I would probably go for England (my home country) or for my favourite flag, I would go for Lebanon. I think the tree looks really nice and red is my favourite colour!

Nice answer and indeed the flag of Lebanon is attractive, a nice Cedar tree in the middle.
