Make an apple man : bob for apples at the Halloween party, and make hot apple cider and apple pie for Thanksgiving dinner. Why not let your children create their very own Apple Man to decorate a festive fall table? Make one Apple Man for each dinner guest to hold their place card or to use as a center piece.
Things You'll Need:
1 large apple
20 cranberries
9 whole cloves
1 candy corn
5 toothpicks
Coat-weight reinforced thread
Large sewing or tapestry needle
Scissors
Instructions
Step1.Make the Apple Man's face by poking a whole clove into the apple for each eye. The cloves have sharp pointed tips that stick into the skin of the apple and their fragrance will waft from the apple for several days. Make a smile using 7 more whole cloves. Break a toothpick in half. Pierce the base of a piece of candy corn with the toothpick. Push the other end of the toothpick into the apple so that the candy corn's point faces out for a sharp funny looking nose.
Step 2.Make the Apple Man's arms. Thread the needle. Double the thread over and tie a knot at the end. Push the needle through a cranberry right in the middle. Pull the cranberry to sit right on top of the knot. Thread 3 more cranberries until all 4 cranberries are on the thread like beads on a string. Tie another knot and cut the extra thread off. Make a second string of 4 cranberries just the same way.
Step 3.Make the Apple Man's legs. Using the same technique as when you made the Apple Man's arms, make his legs. String 6 cranberries on a piece of thread for each leg.
Step 4.Attach the arms and the legs to the Apple Man. Push a toothpick through the top cranberry and into one side of the apple just below the point where the nose is for one arm. Attach the other arm at the same height on the apple on the opposite side of the face. Attach the legs the same way but stick the legs into the front of the apple below the mouth. Place the legs next to each other about an inch apart.
Step 5.Position the legs so that they add personality to your Apple Man. He can be seated with both legs sticking out in front on the table. HIs legs can dangle down from the edge of the table or a shelf or his legs can be cros

You can make some apple sauce to be used in pancakes later. Apples will give a surprise element to salads. Also, you can grate the apples and cabbage. Add some mayonnaise as dressing to make a nice salad.Grated apples and cinnamon added to pancake mix will be nice too.
