I would use some color additive for food, they are safe and easy to obtain.
I could have been made of Kiwi or pistaccio but it is too much of an effort and more expensive.

In Great Britain a custard is not the same as in America, having most of them being of a relatively thin texture that is bound with cornflower versus the traditional egg and cream.
