If you don't want to add brandy, you can always substitute milk.
Alton Brown recommends rolling out the cookies with powdered sugar, instead of flour. I have not tried this, but it supposedly helps keep the dough moister, for a tastier cookie.

• Good sources with some great options for sugar cookies. I'd have liked to have known if you had tried the recipe and what you thought. Thanks!

This looks like a really interesting recipe. This person used a basic recipe from Joy of Baking (always a good resource: http://www.joyofbaking.com/SugarCookie.html) and then added crushed lifesavers to the center. I think your friends and family will remember your gift more if it's an unusual variation on the basic sugar cookie recipe.Permalink | Report

I enjoy the flavor kick of adding a little brandy to sugar cookies, like Martha Stewart suggests in this recipe: http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/ideal-sugar-cookiesIf you don't want to add brandy, you can always substitute milk.
