Where are some trusted places to take online engineering courses?

My uncle needs to take some refresher courses and do some verification courses. He in an engineer and not sure if he can trust the online sites that offer classes.

http://ocw.mit.edu for free online courses from MIT (cant beat that!)

There are a bunch of places online in addition to the 2 above so I would think it may just be personal preference. Keep in mind a lot of the courses are from the same company and just resold under certain brand names. Check the providers if you need certain certification as this can vary from state to state.

I would suggest him trying a free course at one of the providers as most offer them and he can get a feel for how their systems work without risk.

The University of Southern California (USC) has a world-renowned distance education program for engineers called DEN. I would suggest he check DEN out: http://den.usc.edu/

MIT has an amazing free library of courses called Open Courseware.

These are real courses taught at MIT, and here you can find the syllabus, homework assignments, tests, and sometimes even video lectures from past years of these courses.

The engineering section is quite extensive and covers everything from Aero-Astro to Nuclear Engineering.

There is a university in Alberta Canada called Athabasca University that offers most of their courses online: http://www.athabascau.ca/

MIT's Open Course Ware is great. They offer lecture notes, reading materials and even audio and video lectures for free. These are the same courses students at MIT take.

Stanford Engineering Everywhere offers a similar series of lectures and course materials although they are geared towards Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.

MITs program is actually part of a larger program called the Open Course Ware Consortium. There are tons of universities that participate in this group (University of California and Notre Dame, as well as plenty of international schools. You can check out their website here:
