In choosing a career should you take a shot at what you really want to do, or settle for someth
Assuming your desired career may take 4 years of schooling and another career you know you would be good at but really could care less about you could get started in 2 years.

Why does it have to be an either/or and not a both/and?
You can ALWAYS make money ("practical") from something you love ("really want to do"). That's just good business sense...
Just remember, you can ALWAYS change your career. I went though three major career changes. I LOVED each and every one of them and made good money from each of them.
Make EVERYTHING you do "practical".
And go read "Think and Grow Rich" by Napolean Hill. Short read and talks directly to what you're asking.
And, a direct answer: There are some jobs I took that I either wasn't too interested in or turned into something I really didn't like, but I stayed for the money. That was a mistake. I became physically ill from the lack of interest or unhappiness. Do what you enjoy!

from my own experiance, i took 2 years of college, i can barely afford my loan payments along with being a single mom of 3, but i really want to go back to school, but right now an associates degree is all i can deal with, and it isnt much in the career world. and associates degree to me, has not seemed to help much, i always hear wow u got a degree why are you working here, the bad thing is because of my credit from my student loans, because all government jobs do a credit check, nowisnt that just fantastic.
