Really, I think it went the other way. I think eBay tried to become a competitor to Amazon (with the emergence of so many people just using the "buy it now" feature) rather than Amazon entering eBay's market. Clearly, eBay has not done very well at challenging Amazon's dominance.

I mostly answered this on the other related question, but I think Amazon has definitely become more reputable than eBay has. The descriptions of the items, the design of the page, the costs of listings, and the ease of purchase are all far better than eBay. I use them far more than I do eBay. Really, I think it went the other way. I think eBay tried to become a competitor to Amazon (with the emergence of so many people just using the "buy it now" feature) rather than Amazon entering eBay's market. Clearly, eBay has not done very well at challenging Amazon's dominance.
