I'd also like to recommend getting a PS3.

I bought a Sony Blu-ray and love it... but I continually find disks that don't work because the player needs an firmware update. Very frustrating. The PS3 would do that over the 'net.

The Sony player is also VERY SLOW! Boot-up time is excruciating!

And, of course, you get a bunch of extras with the PS3...

I wish I had done it differently...

Up until recently, Blu-ray standalone players were almost the same price as a PlayStation3. I weighed the costs and paid the extra amount for the PS3.

I can now surf the internet on my TV, watch downloaded content, streamed from my PC to my PS3 and play awesome games.

Here's a link to watching videos on the Ps3

I would also recommend PS3. There is going to be a price drop on PS3 and it will work out much more cheaper to get a PS3 with all those additional features. If you apply for a Sony card, you can save another $150.

If you are not interested in the PS3 gaming functions and having to buy the remote separate ($25) which most people do if they are going to be using it for home theater, I would go with the new samsung BDP1600. It has great reviews and can stream netflix, something that the PS3 can't do. Within 10 seconds I have 12,000 programs that I can go and watch. That it pretty sweet! I use it everyday.

Here's a link to the review, very positive.
