I cannot speak personally to the Android system, but I recently owned an iPod touch, the operating system of which is quite similar to the iPhone. I also currently own a Windows Mobile-based phone, so here goes:
--Windows Mobile--
Advantage
Excellent level of customization, both in the options menus as well as in the ability to add 3rd party apps.
Disadvantage
All the instability of the Windows operating system. Resetting the phone is not an uncommon experience
--iPod touch / iPhone--
Advantages
Sexy interface
Integration with the iTunes app store
Disadvantage
Difficult to completely customize (w/o jailbreaking at least). I recall it missing a few of, what seemed to me at least, basic customization options in the options menus.
--Android--
I'm interested to see how this compares with iPhone / WM
