Care and Feeding of Laptop Battery;

I bought a battery recently for my HP,
it had this interesting statement on the Battery don't's,
Leaving a battery in a laptop while using an electrical outlet for long periods of time will keep the battery in a constant state of charging up and that will reduce the life cycle of the battery.
Now that is strange.

Lithium-ion batteries have no memory effect meaning you do not have to completely discharge them before recharging.
A lithium-ion battery loses about 5 percent of itʻs charge every month. And if it discharges completely it becomes useless because the cells are ruined. So removing your battery pack from your laptop for extended periods of time could actually ruin it!

Care and Feeding of Laptop Battery;
Anyone have specific information in regards to the newer batteries in our computers?
Just wondering what the better/best policy is these days, leave your laptop plugged in all the time, run it on battery regularily, or occasionally, let it run down some, or almost to auto shut-down, had a laptop battery die a premature death recently. Don't want my new computer to suffer the same fate. Use a laptop primarily for size considerations, don't travel with it too much.

Your old battery was probably a NiMH battery, much different from the current lithium-ion batteries used today. I donʻt think you have to remove the battery or give it any special care other than keeping it from overheating. Lithium-ion batteries have no memory effect meaning you do not have to completely discharge them before recharging.

My battery did the same thing and I have it right here. It's a lithium-ion. The original HP battery.

As morriss mentions my battery was also a lithium-ion and I suspect it died because of a near constant state of being charging, or fully charged, so right now we have two opinions that are almost total opposites.
BTW sshawnn, my "extended period of time" for removing the battery, would be about three weeks at a time, then I fly home for my days off and move it around for a few days, using it on battery like most. Thoughts??

So the first word of advise would be to take the battery out when using AC for prolonged periods of time? Charge it up again how often? Anyone?
