Gimp is great for image manipulation. http://www.gimp.org/
3D Blender is great for 3D image manipulation. http://www.blender.org/
Both of these programs are open-source projects.

Thanks for these! I love GIMP - and I was intrigued by Blender - but I think it is a little difficult for me to do - maybe a bit more knowledge of Python Programming Language may help me out!

Can you clarify the question to what type of images you are designing?

The Gimp is free and great for doing photoshop-like tasks.

Hi,

I am looking for a software that can design 2D interfaces and 3D products. Mainly for technology.

I know GIMP is good but is there any other one which is easy to use and can focus on these aims more.

Have you tried the google SketchUp?

I guess it is not as simple as they show it but I would give it a try.

Thanks nushka,

I am trying Google SketchUp - and I like it more than GIMP - but I would have preferred it there were a good rendering program with Google SketchUp - I know there is Kerkythea but it is not the program for me.

Thanks

For 2D vector work, have you tried Inkscape?
http://www.inkscape.org/

For 3D, Blender is a massive player despite being free software.
