Not only America but the entire world should wage a war to save the environments and the rain forests.
1. Vision and mission objectives - This vision and mission objectives would be for the entire world and would sate what America and other countries would undertake to save and protect the remaining rain forests and also preserve them for future generations to come
2. Education- I think all countries should be educated about the role that rain forests contributes to the existence of man. If it is one war that America should wage and use the doctrine on preemptive strike it should be educating countries on the role of preserving and the replenishing of rain forests.. America should and also encourage all world leaders to implement an Environmental Educational program that would encourage all of its citizens to be more aware of their surroundings and especially the benefits of preserving rain forests. What it can also do is encourage countries to implement in schools a class that deals specifically with the environment. The most important step is to educate the youths so that they can avoid the mistakes their elders would have already made towards the environment.
3.Funding- America should provide countries that still have rain forests money to maintain and also preserve them.

Here is a link to a page that has a lot of information about how to protect, preserve and maintain rain forests http://rainforests.mongabay.com/1001.htm

Prince Charles is working on just that goal. I have made a mahalo page to help make people more aware . I hope it does. I know it is a huge problem, but if we do not bring it to everyone's attention then it is not controllable at all. You have an amazing grasp of the situation, and yes I believe we can as people of the world save the rainforest. If we all work together.

Thank you very much and your question is one of the best i have answered so far on Mahalo. I think it is questions like these that deserves good solid answers from members. Most people are oblivious to what is happening right now on this planet some if not most feel that the world will keep spinning and there is nothing to fear. Oh how wrong they are. Would you believe that a small creature like the honey bee can have a such a negative impact on the world? Without bees plants would find it hard to pollinate and reproduce. Can you imagine a planet without trees how will we breathe, if there are no trees what will create rain. I think these are the wars we should be waging on earth. Saving trees, animals, preserving rain forests, helping indigenous people in forest protect their homes etc. These minute situations to most people will have a huge impact on all humans.

Many products, such as toilet paper, are made from wood. Even if the actual trees don't come from the rain forest, if its the same type of wood the demand makes it more valuable and contributes to the financial incentives for deforestation.

I don't think we can reduce demand for some of these things too much, although bidets might not be a bad idea. Meanwhile, if someone could find a way to make good toilet paper out of something besides wood pulp it would help.

Other than supply and demand, its very difficult. If you try and pay people not to deforest their land, you have to pay them continually, or they can take the money and THEN deforest next year - what would you do?

Actually, what the large nations could do is to take over the control of the countries, that have important eco-systems and run the country as a board compiled by several countries. Look at the countries from Mexico and down. The last 500 years they have done nothing but destroying the environment and the governments are not interested in improving anything(but their personal economy). So, having a board of countries to govern middle and south america cannot but be an improvement in all areas.
