How can we virally pass the word of the slaughter of sharks?

I'm looking for ideas to use social networking to virally advertise the needless killing and encourage its end. http//www.costarica-discover-it.com/shark-finning.html

To take advantage of the possibility of a viral campaign, you have to create something that people will want to pass to their friends. Usually, this is a short video that is funny, amusing, or cute. For example, you could make a really cute video of baby sharks playing, or perhaps some little kid playing with a pet shark. You may have a bit more trouble coming up with something like this trying to help sharks as opposed, say, to baby seals.

One pro shark video that has already been circulating is the one about toasters. In a nutshell, it shows people running screaming out of the water at the beach when an ominous fin is spotted. The fin, close up, turns out to be a toaster. It seems malfunctioning toasters kill a lot more people every year than sharks.

The principle is that you have to make something that people will want to pass to their friends. Their is nothing magic about the word viral, otherwise every two bit businessman and crank political cause would be doing it. You have to do something creative.

I think the key to the answer is in your question - you want to do it "virally" using 21st century media to get your message out. Well, the kings of social media these days are Facebook, Myspace and Twitter. If you have accounts on any of those, you can start spreading the news and asking your friends to repost (or "retweet" in the case of Twitter). Old school media would mean that you needed to buy expensive ads in newspapers, magazines, or on television or radio -- but you can spread the news much more quickly using the Internet.
